Primary Employers Tasmania welcomes the extension of the Emergency Food Grant Fund to Migrant Seasonal Workers living on farms or in shared accommodation while working in a primary production enterprise as part of a seasonal work arrangement.

The migrant seasonal workforce is imperative to the Tasmanian farming industry, providing a stable and reliable workforce particularly to the horticulture and food manufacturing sectors.

The support will enable affected seasonal workers to restock their grocery supplies lost as a result of the prolonged power outages experienced in the recent storms. This support will provide some financial relief following the additional challenges of many worked being relocated to temporary accommodation all while dealing with the additional workload of farm repair works, as the season approaches.
